A small golf club, Čertovo břemeno (Devil's Burden), is located on the hilly landscape of South Bohemia referred to as the "Czech Siberia". The location is defined by topographical undulations that literally called for a sunk, smallish, tapering, conic concrete building. When viewed from the access road, the building forms a naturaI-looking grassy knolI, one out of the in numerable grassy knolls strewn around the landscape. The knoll is trimmed towards the green proper, offering entry into a small, wedgeshaped room. This space, gray with a black floor, opens into a hearth with sheet metal lining the entire rear wall. The furnishings are practical and austere. A long bench from solid oak is firmly mounted onto the concrete wa II on the right, with several square tables from square stainless steel tubes and massive black polypropylene, complemented by transparent chairs by Philippe Starck, placed along its side. The lights above the tables are suspended from metal ropes and can thus be adjusted as required. The left section of the gray room is defined by a long bar with an oak counter. Behind the bar, a more narrow orange service room houses a small kitchen, support faciIities for the bar, storage space and toilets that can be accessed from the exterior. The view is an important part of the clubroom concept. The room expands towards the landscape in order to "absorb" as much as possible, and to blend in. Some of the round concrete tiles will be placed underneath garden furniture. The club's logo, displayed on the front glass, was designed by Professor Libenský.
